REMEMBERING ONE OF THE GREATEST DAYS IN AMERICAN HISTORY

August 21st, 1831 Nat Turner slave rebellion began in Southampton, VA. The rebellion was huge in the eyes of many slaves who had suffered for years. Nat Turner's rebellion was one of the bloodiest and most effective in American history. It ignited a culture of fear in Virginia that eventually spread to the rest of the South, and is said to have expedited the coming of the Civil War. In the immediate aftermath of the rebellion, however, many Southern states, including North Carolina, tightened restrictions on African Americans. Over the course of two days, dozens of whites were killed as Turner's band of insurrectionists, which eventually numbered over fifty, moved systematically from plantation to plantation in Southampton County. Most of the rebels were executed along with countless other African Americans who were suspected, often without cause, of participating in the conspiracy. Nat Turner, though, eluded capture for over two months. He hid in the Dismal Swamp area and was discovered accidentally by a hunter on October 30. He surrendered peacefully.

Tax payers have also been called to task to pay the $198,000 settlement to Orlando Lopez-Soto, the man being stomped on by thugs in the video below.

Two Bridgeport police officers have pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges, after they were caught on tape kicking an incapacitated man, federal prosecutors say.

Elson Morales, 42, and Joseph Lawlor, 41, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Bridgeport to deprivation of rights under color of law, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Clive Higgins, a 12-year veteran of the Bridgeport Police, was due in court on Friday to be arraigned on the felony charge of using unreasonable force during the 2011 arrest, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Connecticut said in a statement.
If convicted, Higgins, 48, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Anonymous, the collective of cyber “hacktivists” who are known to wreak havoc on the Internets, reportedly hacked into the website of the city of Ferguson, Mo., Sunday night.
To prevent any hacking attempts, the mayor of Ferguson ordered the IT department to take down the city’s servers overnight. Despite the IT department’s best efforts, none of the city’s email servers were working Monday morning. The action came after Anonymous threatened to leak the personal information of Ferguson police officers in the wake of the police shooting of 18-year-old Mike Brown.

Anonymous turned its sights on St. Louis Police Chief Jon Belmar and his family after Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson announced he would not release the name of Brown’s killer as promised today. The St. Louis Police Department is handling the investigation into Brown’s death.
An associate of Anonymous tweeted photos of Belmar’s family and the home address of a Ferguson police officer. It is not known if the police officer is the same one who shot Brown multiple times on Saturday.
One of the photos tweeted from the Anonymous Twitter account showed a confederate flag on the wall behind a male who was identified as Belmar’s son, Colin.
In related news, President Barack Obama called for peace and expressed his condolences to the Brown family today.
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Obama said:

“I know the events of the past few days have prompted strong passions, but as details unfold, I urge everyone in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the country, to remember this young man through reflection and understanding,” Obama said. “We should comfort each other and talk with one another in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds. Along with our prayers, that’s what Michael and his family, and our broader American community, deserve.”
